There are initally a few challenges for artists. They have to determine what to put on the price tag for their works. When it comes to creating an optimal, yet artistically aesthetic exhibiting space, complemented by the right illustrations for audience's understanding  and comprehension, they have to think even harder. They will then face the next hurdle -- how to commmunicate with the audience in an exhibition or expo setting, to make sure the whole conversation will not be "lost in translation". We have invited Ms Henrietta Tsui-Leung, founder and co-president of the Hong Kong Art Gallery Association and art gallery owner, to offer and share her invaluable advice and experience.

Ms. Anca CHUNG, Head of Performing Arts, Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundations

International Seminar: Asian Avant-Garde Art and Its Practice
Do you remember the happening at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art? A pair of glasses was left on the floor at the museum and everyone mistook it for art. Likewise, art has no limitation; it is indeed initiative and a powerful tool for sharing ideas. Avant-Garde is originally a French term, meaning vanguard or advance guard in English, which is credited to the influential thinker Henri de Saint-Simon who believed in the social power of the arts. In 1825, he wrote “We artists will serve you as an avant-garde, the power of the arts is most immediate: when we want to spread new ideas we inscribe them on marble or canvas.”

Upcoming seminar “Asian Avant-Garde Art and Its Practice” invites artists, scholars and senior curators from Korea, mainland China, Hong Kong and Japan to discuss the current trend Avant-Garde Art and interrelation between the regions. The seminar will bring Korean art discourse to international surface by discussing it under the context of trilateral art history. In addition, Mono-ha, Japanese Avant-Garde, Chinese Political Pop Art will be covered. Audience will have a chance to broaden the platform to share ideas and understandings in regards to arts.
