About the Seminar
Ticketing platform is essential to the promotion and sales of programmes and events. Regardless of the scale of events, ticket sales is a direct reflection to audience participation. Managing the ticket sales can oftentimes be a challenge to organizations' already straining resources. However, if the right ticketing service is identified and employed, arts organizations' administrative burden can definitely be alleviated.
Recent years have seen a blossom in the variety of arts performances and related activities. In response to the increased needs by such variety and its audiences, ticketing systems reformed and alternate ones emerged. Do these ticketing systems provide supplementary services other than simply selling event tickets? Exactly what services do the alternate systems provide?
HKAAA is pleased to have invited the masterminds behind major ticketing systems to talk about their respective systems. Mr. Esmond Chan, Senior Manager (Ticketing), Leisure and Cultural Services Department will introduce the URBTIX system updates; Mr. Mike Hill, Festival Director and Co-Founder of Ticketflap / Clockenflap and Ms. Jacqueline Lo, Project Manager of Art-mate will respectively introduce their independent ticketing systems, as well as other supplementary services available.

Launched in 1984, URBTIX (Urban Ticketing System) has mainly provided one-stop ticketing services to hirers or programme organisers and audiences of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) performance venues. In terms of sales, customers are served by a full range of ticketing services through counter service at over 40 outlets, internet booking and telephone credit card booking services.
Developed by Cityline (Hong Kong) Limited on behalf of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to meet users’ needs, the new URBTIX ticketing system will be launched by phases from March 2014 onwards. Designed with enlarged capacity, the new system offers a tenfold increase as compared with the previous system in the number of concurrent users that can be accommodated. Other new services to be implemented by phases include payment by China UnionPay cards issued by banks in the Mainland for Internet booking; mobile ticketing which can facilitate ticket purchase by smart phones as well as a wide range of personalized functions for registered members such as email reminder to attend purchased events, etc.
Ticketflap was born out to create a common sense approach to ticketing which the founders felt has been sorely missing in Hong Kong.
The team of Ticketflap runs a festival called Clockenflap. Creating the ticketing mechanics for the festival was always just the first step, before then being able to offer the same services to other event organisers and fans.
Ticketflap can be a place which not only makes buying tickets and getting in to events as painless and seamless an experience as it should be, but to also create a platform that enables all of us to discover more of the fantastic happenings taking place across our wonderful city.
Hong Kong theater information platform X online ticketing service
Art-mate is an online performance database for the public to find information on stage performances systematically and learn more about local theatre actors' information. Contributed to this database, the public can easily look up information and in turn build momentum for local theatrical works.
With reference of the International Movie Database (IMDb), Art-mate attempted to establish a multi-functional platform to publicize and catalogue local performances. Art-mate looks to provide a systematic online database for local performances, so as to attract audiences of all walks of life to enjoy stage performances. From here on, Art-mate expanded its services to online ticketing.
