【Exclusive for HKAAA Members / Volunteers】Cultural Tour Series : Meet the Local Culture – Guided Tour in Tung Nam Lou Art Hotel with the Art Curator Dialogue
In recent years, numerous multipurpose cultural venues have emerged. Some hotels in Hong Kong have also looked at their positioning from an artistic and cultural point of view. Tung Nam Lou, a former seafood restaurant, is one of them.
We are excited to invite Ms Cathy Tsang, the Art Curator of Tung Nam Lou, to give us a tour around the hotel, as well as to share how they link the Arts with commercial development.
Tung Nam Lou Art Hotel|Brings together a hotel, co-working space, and art space
About 'Tung Nam Lou Art Hotel'
Mr. Lo Chi Ching, founder of Tung Nam Lou, believes art is a part of our life that everyone should be able to appreciate, to create and to enjoy. Being the major element of the hotel project, art can be found everywhere inside the building. Mr. Lo opened Seafood Restaurant in Yau Ma Tei in 1950; and later on, he built the 'Puning Culture and Art Museum' in his hometown. The Lo's family passes on his spirit by infusing art into the hotel, and into our daily lives.
Tung Nam Lou Art Hotel is a complex space that brings together a hotel, co-working space - 'Heritage Cowork', Art Pub 'room68' and 'TUNG NAM HERITAGE' Art Shop, where both locals and travellers from all walks of life meet and explore as in a melting pot.

An Awakened, Visually Surreal Physical Theatre – L’Orphelin
The Orphan of Zhao is one of China’s oldest and most venerated folklore. Various history commentaries told their own version of the story. It is difficult to identify the truth. In L’Orphelin, without settings, props and costumes, the performing group Théâtre de la Feuille reinvents their own version of the story solely with their bodies, leading audiences to ponder what the “truth” and “fact” are. (Performed in Mandarin, with Chinese and English Surtitles)

Jumping Frames International Dance Video Festival 2019
For the first time this edition, the Festival sets up VR dance videos and installation video work. In "Afterimage for Tomorrow", director Singing CHEN collaborates with choreographer CHOU Shu-yi to perform the ineffable in memories. "SWIM 0.5" creates a surrealistic journey for viewers to travel between reality and virtual reality, so as to stimulate their imagination.

VR Dance Video: Afterimage for Tomorrow
10-14/9 (Tue - Sat, 12nn-10pm)
15/9 (Sun, 12nn-6pm)
Hall F Studio, Tai Kwun
Welcome to the “Afterlife Memory Trust”. With us, you will be selecting three pieces of your memory to relive by the time you decease. When your life terminates, we will stimulate your neurons to bring out the designated memories. Each vision lasts a light time.
We perceive the world through eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind. These sensory is stored as memory in words, pictures, sounds and moving images. With fractions of the transcribed memories, we are capable of returning to a specific point in time, which is an act of distortion and overlaying of time and space. However memories aren’t always reliable. A man wakes up in an unknown dimension of consciousness. What is it that he sees, hears and feels? Is it memory, virtual reality or terminal lucidity?
In Persistence of Memory, director Singing CHEN collaborates with choreographer Shou-Yi CHOU to perform the ineffable in memories. This metafiction film sets in a futuristic world, where memories can be uploaded and perpetuated, thus leads to the discussion of what in life is worth storing. Persistence of Vision; when an object in rapid motion vanishes from sight, human brain creates a 0.1-0.4 seconds of optical illusion. How long will the images and memories we create today live in the future?
Choreographer: Shu-Yi CHOU
VR Dance Video: SWIM 0.5
10-14/9 (Tue - Sat, 12nn-10pm)
15/9 (Sun, 12nn-6pm)
Hall F Studio, Tai Kwun
Immersed in a de-constructed swimming pool, viewer will be invited to sit on a lifebuoy and enjoy a 360-degree virtual reality dance movie.
The work provides viewers a brand new sensory and sensational experience on both dance and space, and creates a surrealistic journey for viewers to travel between reality and virtual reality, so as to stimulate their imagination.
SWIM 0.5 was inspired by the project Hack-a-Bench (designed by Hinz PAK and Dylan KWOK, supported by the Art Promotion Office of the Leisure and Cultural Service Department of the government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region). The SWIM video was filmed at the T・SPA in the T・PARK.
Special thanks to Art Promotion Office (APO), Environmental Protection Department (EPD) and Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) for making it happens.
Primitive Nostalgia (Video installation)
10-14/9 (Tue - Sat, 12nn-10pm)
15/9 (Sun, 12nn-6pm)
Hall F Studio, Tai Kwun
Primitive Nostalgia is a unique voyage through Hollywood cinema, featuring some of the most memorable dance numbers to ever be captured on film. In the assemblage of these cinematic samples, which explicitly record portrayals of cultural dances performed by various ethnic troupes, a concern for the construction of cultural identity emerges.
Stay tuned for more updates on Jumping Frames official website and Facebook page.

M+ Talk Series: Community Engagement at the Core: Rethinking Museums for the Twenty-First Century
At a time when masterpieces can be easily viewed on smartphones, how do we make the case for the importance of visiting museums, especially when creativity and culture are not placed at the core of society? Join us on 2 October to hear Kelly McKinley, Deputy Director of the Oakland Museum of California, speak about how museums are evolving in order to remain relevant and sustainable community resources in an increasingly divided and technology-driven world. McKinley draws on specific examples to illustrate how museums are reimagining their roles as educators and convenors, and developing their missions and programmes to be of greater service and value to the people in their communities.

Matilda The Musical
Inspired by the beloved book by the incomparable Roald Dahl, Matilda The Musical has taken both London’s West End and Broadway by storm, garnering five-star reviews across the board.  The multi-award winning musical is now in its seventh year in London where it continues to delight audiences of all ages, and has been seen by more than 9 million people.

With an incredible cast of performers, Matilda inspires and delights audiences both young and old. The timeless story of a small girl's determination to challenge those above her for the greater good, combined with Roald Dahl's signature wit and naughtiness, makes this an unforgettable West End musical.
