Extra performance of CCDC ‘Mr Blank’ due to ticketing demand!
Programme Details

CCDC resident choreographer Sang Jijia boldly challenges the relationship between space and surveillance in his new contemporary dance theatre, Mr Blank. Comparing with Sang’s previous works, more multimedia and interactive elements are being used, with the production resembling an art installation in which the audience and dancers play a main part.

Due to overwhelming public demand, an additional performance will be held on October 7 at 5pm at the Studio Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets are available at URBTIX now.

Untitled III by Wayson Poon
Form without form,
Path without path,
Motion without motion,
Self without self.

The choreography is inspired by the paintings of Liu Wentao, in which 'the intertwining straight lines result in a tranquil geometric space'.  From a Chinese philosophy perspective, the choreography goes on to explore the concepts of ‘dot-line-plane’ through the physicality of the dancers, their extended dynamics, and the relations in between these two.  Untitled III reveals the shifting relations between the states of ‘Have Not, or Non-existence’ and ‘Have, or Existence’, further to reflect the emotional and physical distance between individuals in order to attain inner peace.

“Music Interflow – A Dialogue Between East and West” – Music reaches a new horizon when East and West converge
JOCKEY CLUB New Arts Power is bringing Hong Kong its first ticketed music programme, Music Interflow – A Dialogue Between East and West presented by Musica Viva. This star-studded event emphasises the juxtaposition between Chinese and British cultural heritage.

The concept of Music Interflow – A Dialogue Between East and West was inspired by the opening concert of Hong Kong Music Series in London last year. Directed by Lo King-man, dubbed “Father of Hong Kong Opera”, and the Founder and Artistic Director of Musica Viva. When organising each concert, Professor Lo will consider the talents of each artist, as well as the unique characteristics of Hong Kong local music. In Music Interflow – A Dialogue Between East and West, Professor Lo has specially arranged pieces by three generations of Hong Kong composers: Doming Lam’s Three Nocturnal Lyrics of Li Bai, Op. 6, Clarence Mak’s Guzheng solo Meditation on Mount Jingting, and young female talent Tsui Mei-ling’s Six Miniature Pieces of Yin and Yang. Renowned Chinese and Western musicians were also invited to perform, including professional Guzheng player Xu Lingzi, renowned pianists Nancy Loo and Mary Wu, young talented Erhu player Chan Pik-sum and vocalists Colette Lam and Carol Lin. Through this musical dialogue, Musica Viva invites audiences to journey through Hong Kong’s musical development, and takes the opportunity to introduce local talents to the community.

The finale piece, The Sunset by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi, draws inspiration from Percy Bysshe Shelley’s romantic poem of the same name. English literature plays a pivotal role in the history of world literature, alongside the complex historical and cultural encounters between the United Kingdom and Hong Kong. So it is quite fitting to conclude the concert with a musical imagery of classic English literature.

【Hong Kong Arts Centre】 The 24th ifva Awards Now Calling for Entry
Organised by the Hong Kong Arts Centre and sponsored by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the 24th ifva Awards officially opens in August. This year ifva attempts to connect with the unique world of the creators, and also queries the meaning and essence of creating. Apart from inviting creative talents to serve as jurors, this year ifva’s publicity collaterals and trailers are all created by young independent filmmaker Wong Fei-pang, who looks into the inner lonely world of artists from his own first-hand perspective. The black tone of the visual reflects the lonesome and the single-mindedness which might remind us of falling into the darkest abyss, while the white marks on it looks like sprays from the sea, allegorising whirlpools in the mind during brainstorming. All these imageries relate back to the beliefs that a creative talent holds on to: “Only for the sake of creation – delve into it when the time comes.”

ifva provides the soil to cultivate creativity, and offers a platform for emerging creative talents to demonstrate their capabilities. The 24th ifva is now calling for entry under five categories: Open, Youth, Animation, Media Art and Asian New Force, inviting short films, animations and media art works from locally and across Asia.

The 24th ifva is now calling for entry:
