The Happiness as a Stranger - Art Sharing Session
An art sharing session will be hosted at house by kubrick this Sunday (15 July) at 3:30 – 5 pm, organised by the 2018 graduates of The Chinese University of Hong Kong’s Master of Arts in Fine Arts. In this event, renowned Hong Kong artist Dr. Ho Siu-kee and emerging local artist Ms. So Wing-po will be discussing with graduates how art empowers its creators to shift away from their (perceived) familiar self and life, and enables them to reflect on themselves and see through different lens. Join us to hear more about their artworks!
This sharing session is free and open to public.

Speakers' Profiles:
Prof. Ho Siu-kee

Prof. Ho Siu-kee graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong with a B.A. degree in Fine Arts in 1989. He then received his Master and Doctor of Fine Art degree in America and Australia respectively. He participated in various prestigious exhibitions worldwide including 49th Venice Biennial in 2001.
Ho’s artistic and academic research focuses on exploring bodily perception as a means and process of aesthetic expression both in contemporary sculptural practice and in traditional handicraft. Prof. Ho also has extensive experience in art education and academic administration.
So Wing-po
So Wing-po was born in a family of traditional Chinese medical practitioners. She is, therefore, highly acquainted with the textures, forms and smells of the Chinese pharmacological herbs since a young age. In 2007 she graduated from a design & visual arts school in the U.S. So's artistic practice has taken on an investigation of Chinese medicinal herbs — physically but also philosophically, mixing the mythic and the scientific, weaving the microscopic with the macroscopic. So graduated from the Chinese University Master of Arts in Fine Arts in 2012.

A Scene at the Sea

Director: Takeshi Kitano
Japan / 1991 / Col / 101’ / In Japanese with English subtitles

An early masterpiece by the acclaimed Japanese Director Takeshi Kitano

A deaf-dumb teenager working as a garbage collector happens upon a battered surfboard, which plants in him the dream of becoming a surf champion. His girlfriend, also deaf-dump, lends him her support during the difficult practice sessions and competitions. Though trapped in silence, their expression of love is no less profound.

A lyrical masterpiece reminding us that images are often as powerful as words. This is Kitano's gift.
