【赤裸對話壓軸篇 - 「解讀城市 – 香港省城」】

To Liv(e)
Evans Chan
Hong Kong / 1992 / Col / 106' / In Cantonese and English with Chinese and English subtitles
Cast: Lindzay Chan, Josephine Koo, Anthony Wong

Of Evans Chan’s directorial debut, long considered an underground classic, The Hollywood Reporter wrote: “To Liv(e) was inspired by actress Liv Ullmann’s 1990 visit to Hong Kong, where she decried the forced deportation of Vietnamese refugees. This, coupled with the Tiananmen Square crackdown the year before, contributes to a dark cloud of apprehension over the British colony… With a painter's eye in capturing the bohemian fringe of the Hong Kong art scene, and the mature voice of a seasoned filmmaker, Chan examines love, family, and the fate of Hong Kong, and the culture clash between East and West with equal depth and assurance.”

Best Actress & Best Supporting Actress Award, 29th Taiwan Golden Horse Awards
Best Actress Award, Portugal Sinatra Festival 1991
Special Jury Prize, Singapore Film Festival 1991

Screening with
Within Within
Sharon Liu
3′ 29" / In English with Chinese and English subtitles
“There are many things we cannot choose in life, no one can choose their parents. You have to learn to love them before knowing them.”
My graduation film is about my personal feelings to Hong Kong and its complicated relationship with China. It expresses what I really want to say and feel at the age of 23, that I love not just my birth place Hong Kong but my country as well.

Workshop | Designing the Future: Cultural Leadership and Sustainable Development
Date: 19 May 2018 (Saturday)
Time: 10:30am – 1:30pm
Venue: Black Box Theatre, HKU (map)
Workshop Facilitator: Sholeh Johnston, Director, The Field

A practical workshop for artists, creative practitioners, and cultural leaders from across the arts and creative sectors, including performing and visual arts, film and TV, design, architecture, museums and archives, literature and publishing, and cultural policy makers.

As climate change and environmental challenges become increasingly present in our everyday lives, this workshop considers what the implications, challenges and opportunities are for cultural leaders and practitioners in Hong Kong. We will look at cultural leadership in context, exploring the approaches, values and traits of artists and cultural practitioners leading and responding to social and environmental change through their work.

The global movement of artists, cultural organisations and policymakers collaborating to shape imaginative visions and practical solutions will be taken as inspiration, particularly in cities; consider the role of policymaking in advancing change; and reflect on the leadership competencies and actions that will support transition to more sustainable ways of working in the long term.

The workshop will provide space for reflection, as well as inspiring case studies, practical resources and tools, and everyone will leave with tangible actions to take back to their communities, workplaces and creative practice.

About the Facilitator
Sholeh Johnston is a creative consultant, coach and facilitator with over ten years’ experience across the creative industries in the UK and internationally. She has worked across different artforms with hundreds of artists, organisations, policymakers and academic institutions to explore interdisciplinary issues such as climate change and environmental sustainability, climate justice, intercultural understanding, and wellbeing. She has led programmes on creative leadership for sustainable development, and has recently completed a report into how artists and creative organisations are contributing to climate justice and sustainable development in South Africa. She is an Associate of Julie's Bicycle, one of the world’s most pioneering organisations for cultural action on climate change, where she was previously Head of Creative Programmes and with whom she created the world’s first Creative Climate Leadership Programme. She is a Clore Leadership Programme Fellow (2016/17). www.thefield.consulting
