“Harbour Arts Sculpture Park” Jockey Club Arts Education Programme - Public Art Symposium - Public Art Power: The role of art in society today
「Harbour Arts Sculpture Park」brings together sculptures by internationally renowned contemporary artists to create Hong Kong's largest open-air gallery of monumental public art. This free exhibition of museum-quality works, curated by Fumio Nanjo (Director of Mori Art Museum, International Director of Art Education at Hong Kong Art School) and Tim Marlow (Artistic Director at the Royal Academy of Arts) will dramatically transform the landscape of Tamar Park and the Central Harbourfront, offering a unique opportunity to experience world-class art set against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s iconic skyline. Cementing Hong Kong’s position as a global arts player, the exhibition will be accompanied by a diverse and extensive program of workshops and educational activities, demonstrating that art is for all ages and interests.
“Public Art Power: The Role of Art in Society Today” is an educational symposium and an opportunity for artists, arts professionals, government officials, architects, property developers, students and members of the public to come together to discuss issues relating to the creation and presentation of public art.
The symposium will raise a range of thought-provoking issues, including what constitutes public art; whether all sculptures and public artworks should be pleasing to the eye or thought-provoking and explore controversial issues relevant to their context; and whether public art should be impactful, educational, functional or serve an exclusively aesthetic purpose.

Jockey Club ifva Everywhere – People Cinema: Little Cheung
Hong Kong’s grassroots often take centre stage in Fruit Chan’s films, from the “1997 Trilogy” to The Midnight After. Urban spaces, inhabited by these people, appears as if a character in his films. The latest edition of Jockey Club ifva Everywhere – People Cinema, which always bring alternative cinematic experiences in public spaces, will be screening Fruit Chan’s Little Cheung in Tamar Park. Enjoy a film filled with Hong Kong sentiment facing the Victoria Harbour, which is also iconic to Hong Kong.
【Screening Movie】
Little Cheung
Fruit Chan
Hong Kong / 1999 / Col / 118’ / In Cantonese with Chinese and English subtitles
The eight-year-old Little Cheung often delivers takeaway for his family’s restaurant, and gets along so well with customers from all walks of life. Ah Fan, an illegal immigrant of the same age as Cheung, is declined for job at the restaurant, but Cheung befriends her. The two kids start their urban adventure from Hong Kong’s old district to Tsim Sha Tsui. Cheung runs away from family after he was punished for asking about his lost brother, and Ah Fan faces deportation owing her illegal status…
Little Cheung is the final episode of director Fruit Chan’s “1997 Trilogy”, and is also his love letter to Hong Kong. In the film, Cheung and Ah Fan shout to the harbour off Tsim Sha Tsui, “Hong Kong is ours!” Twenty years later, when we, in Tamar Park, hear their voices uttered from right across the Victoria Harbour, will we have an epiphany about our city?

The 23rd ifva Awards - Media Art Category Finalist Exhibition will be held concurrently, showcasing finalist works from Teppei Yamada (Japan), Kazuhiro Goshima (Japan), Goh Uozumi (Japan), teamVOID (Bae Jae-hyuck, Song Jun-bong) (South Korea), Wong Chun-hoi (Hong Kong), To Tsz-sum Janice (Hong Kong), Tse Chun-sing (Hong Kong), Wong Chi-chuen (Hong Kong) and Law Yuk-mui (Hong Kong).
