Samson Young: Songs for Disaster Relief World Tour
Opening on 9 Feb at M+ Pavilion, Samson Young: Songs for Disaster Relief World Tour is the Hong Kong edition of the exhibition Songs for Disaster Relief conceived by multidisciplinary artist Samson Young for the Venice Biennale 2017. Featuring a series of sculptures, objects, videos, sound installations and site-specific pieces, the exhibition offers a unique audiovisual experience that re-examines the popularity of charity singles from the 1980s.
 
The exhibition is accompanied by a series of free talks, guided tours and live performances. This Saturday, 10 February at 4pm, jazz vocalist Michael Schiefel performs a selection of covers and original songs as Boomtown Gundane, the fictional musician in the work Palazzo Gundane (homage to the myth-maker who fell to earth) which forms part of the exhibition.

Hong Kong Scholarship on the Clore Leadership Programme 2018/19 Open for Application
With the funding support of Home Affairs Bureau, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) launches the “Hong Kong Scholarship on the Clore Leadership Programme (CLP)” again in 2018/19, with an aim to furthering the leadership training of arts management and creative talents of Hong Kong. A maximum of two scholarships will be given. The Scholarship is now open for application.
 
The successful candidate(s) will attend an induction day in the UK on 21 September 2018 and engage with Fellows of the CLP in two mandatory residential leadership courses from 24 September to 5 October 2018 and 24 June to 5 July 2019. The candidate(s) will also take part in intensive leadership training and professional development through approximately 8-week secondment in a cultural institution in the UK between April and July 2019. The total value of the Scholarship is £25,000 per award of which a bursary of up to £14,000 will be made available to each Scholar to cover the cost of tuition and conference fees, accommodation, subsistence, and airfares.

研習班 - 尋找社區/社群藝術的顛覆性

「參與」(participation)是社會參與藝術*中重要的元素。雖然愈來愈多藝術、社區工作者及學者都指出「參與」是帶來社會改變的必要條件,歷史和社會狀況卻顯示出「參與」同樣可被當權者及大財團作為工具。藝術的參與真的能夠賦予人民權力嗎?

如果你在進行社會工作時要應用或安排參與式的藝術活動,這是一個重要的課題!假如你想知道社區文化發展工作是什麼一回事,你務要參加這個課程。

課程内容:
此課程為社會參與藝術的初探,探討各種方式中「參與」的本質,從而有系統地反思其顛覆性及影響。

*社會參與藝術泛指英語中的community art, socially-engaged art, social practice等等,亦包含各種媒介如音樂、劇場、影像至社會行動等等。

導師簡介:
王基信(PhD, Lingnan),多倫多大學藝術管理與音樂歷史文化(榮譽)學士,Institute for Christian Studies世界觀研究碩士,現主要研究社群藝術中藝術工作者與參加者之間的互動。王氏多年來以個人及「全人藝動」機構身份策劃、訓練、倡導及研究社群藝術工作,並於大專院校授社群/社區藝術理論及實踐、藝術管理及美學。

内容:
研習班形式約30%演講+70%文章及應用討論,鼓勵參加者積極分享經驗及觀點,並作適量課前準備(閱讀中或英語文章及於google或youtube搜尋資料等)。內容由社會處境開始反省「顛覆什麼?」,然後探討各種「參與式藝術」模式的理念,從而對本地及自身「參與式藝術」實踐作出批判,尋找及反省社區/社群藝術的顛覆性。

46th Hong Kong Arts Festival - Special Festival PLUS Event
Hong Kong Arts Festival Distinguished Cultural Leader Series (V):  In Conversation with David Pountney, Artistic Director of Welsh National Opera
 
Programme Details
The Hong Kong Arts Festival is delighted to present David Pountney, Artistic Director of Welsh National Opera (WNO) as its special guest, the fifth edition of  the Festival’s Distinguished Cultural Leader Series. One of the world’s leading opera directors, Pountney gained international fame following his production of Katya Kabanova at the 1972 Wexford Festival and his pioneering Janáček cycle in collaboration with WNO. The veteran director is renowned for his innovative approach and has directed more than 20 world premieres. His prolific career includes titles such as Director of Productions for Scottish Opera and English National Opera, and Artistic Director of the Bregenz Festival (2003-2014). He is also a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire), a Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and has the Cavalier's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland in recognition for his accomplishments. With a career spanning four decades, Mr Pountney will spark off a conversation with Angela Mackay, Managing Director-Asia Pacific of the Financial Times, talking about his passion for opera and insights on the art form and the challenges it faces today.

As robots, drones, and virtual reality enter our smart homes, technology has gradually built within us a second nature, an artificial one. HKDI Gallery showcases over 150 pieces of Red Dot Award-winning products in this exhibition that demonstrates how well-designed technology has become a “new, second nature” to modern human beings and shed light on how we could use better design to develop smarter technology.
