Burberry ‘Here We Are’ Photography Exhibition
Burberry will be taking its ‘Here We Are’ photography exhibition to Hong Kong on 11 November for 9 days at 20 Queen’s Road Central. First presented at Old Sessions House in London in September, and visited by over 20,000 guests, ‘Here We Are’ will travel with a curated showcase of works by over 30 of the 20th century’s most celebrated social and documentary photographers. Following Hong Kong, the exhibition will then travel to Paris from 1-10 December.

Marking the first time an exhibition will be showcased at 20 Queen’s Road Central, ‘Here We Are’ will be set across two floors divided into themes exploring the British way of life and character through discrete, monographic presentations, alongside the thematic displays.
‘Here We Are’ is curated by Christopher Bailey (Burberry’s President and Chief Creative Officer), Lucy Kumara Moore (writer, curator and Director of Claire de Rouen) and British photographer Alasdair McLellan. The travelling exhibition will feature over 90 works by photographers including Jane Bown, Brian Griffin, Dafydd Jones, Karen Knorr, Martin Parr, Charlie Phillips and Jo Spence.

Works exhibited in Hong Kong for the first time include:

• Photographs by Shirley Baker, Ken Russell, Colin Jones, Daniel Meadows, Homer Sykes, Janette Beckman, Tessa Traeger and Andy Sewell
•A presentation of work by photographer Alasdair McLellan, Burberry’s latest creative collaborator, featuring four bodies of work taken in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales
• Photographic prints and projections showcasing works by Russian fashion designer, photographer and film maker Gosha Rubchinskiy

Burberry’s September 2017 collection for men and women will also be presented as part of the exhibition. Unveiled on the runway, the collection is inspired by the spirit captured in

City Contemporary Dance Festival: NINA – materialize sacrifice【Hong Kong Premiere】
A dance adventure into the darkness of Japanese aesthetics

NINA proves, in every detail, Jo Kanamori’s sense of beauty and results in a forceful and compelling performance.” - The Performing Arts Journal (Taiwan)

Jo Kanamori, Artistic Director of Noism1 and choreographer of NINA – materialize sacrifice, studies how one might produce an energy strong enough to give a sense of the beauty and power to a body before it moves in space, and explores how to create a body which would absorb the energy of the floor and would not fall even when being pushed. French born Vietnamese composer An Tôn Thât creates a compact music with mechanical sound and hammering percussion, together with the mysterious dim stage light, the piece transpires a sense of thrilling tension. The female dancers’ bodies are stiff like robots with no facial expression, yet their movement is sharp, fast and skillfully controlled, contrasting to the powerful but arbitrary manipulation of the male dancers. Acclaimed as a “compelling work”, NINA has been performed around the world in Paris, Moscow, Washington, Seoul and Taipei.

No Past, No Future
CONSERVE TO SUBVERT
“Make it count!” – Laurence Loh

How often have you heard or used the phrase “Let him think that it’s his idea and you will win support for your cause”? This is covert subversion.
When you march in the streets and occupy a public space, you are viewed as troublemakers trying to influence public perceptions through airtime. This is overt subversion.

Let’s think of heritage conservation as a critical subversive activity.  Which approach will you take, covert or overt?
Laurence Loh, renowned as the “Heritage Crusader” of Penang, Malaysia, has always been looking for covert ways to engage and save Penang’s heritage for future generations.
His milestone restoration project, the Blue Mansion, received the UNESCO’s Most Excellent Project in the Asia Pacific Heritage Award in 2000 and kick-started the path towards the World Heritage Listing of George Town. Riding on the awareness it has created, now conservation is a mainstream activity in Penang.

A new model of subversion can be found in an amorphous advocacy group called the Penang Forum, a loose coalition of individuals and organisations, and has certain impact on political agendas. How does it work?
