Public Forum: Advocating the social value of the arts - the role of arts administrators cum Information session of EMA(AME) programme
Public Forum: Arts education with a difference: how to highlight the social and educational value of the arts ?

Most arts education programmes in town emphasize skill-based training and focus on students’ achievement in graded examinations.  However, the arts education programmes founded by our two speakers highlight on the social and education value of the arts. The Music Children Foundation offers free music lessons to underprivileged children in Sham Shui Po and aims to nurture their confidence, sense of responsibility and team spirit. Rooftop Institute invites Asian and local artists to conduct artistic research and discussions on contemporary social and cultural issues. It strives to broaden the international perspective of local youngsters through their engagement with Asian artists.

The speakers will share with us the rationale behind their vision, the challenges they face and the impact they are making, as well as how they equip themselves to realize their dreams.

Interview with Our Alumni- Ms. Huang Yiping, Producer of Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre

(Chinese Version Only)

The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Performing Arts Education Centre – Organising Fringe Cultural/Art Festivals in Hong Kong
Why would we organise a “festival”? In fact, Hong Kong is never short of arts and cultural activities. Different people are organising different events. Yet, behind the flourishing scene are the challenges of how to gather like-minded people and participants, how to utilise the limited resources and time, and how to link up related activities in an organic way. The self-initiated arts and cultural activities in the community are facing various limitations, from capital, labour, resources to venues. What risks and opportunities are in store for them? In this sharing, we have invited two veteran arts and cultural festival organisers, who respectively coordinate “i-Dance Festival” and “Kowloon City Book Fair”, to share their experience.
