They enjoyed Guangdong Dance Festival performance “Vertigo 20” by Vertigo Dance Company from Israel at Guangdong Opera Arts Center and gathered with the artists afterward. On the next day, participants visited Guangdong Museum and Guangzhou Opera House which was designed by Iraq British architect Zaha Hadid. We had a fruitful exchange with Mr He Ying, Vice–General Manager of Guangzhou Opera House. We also visited Xinhai Concert Hall with Mr Jeff Yeung, Operation Manager of Xinhai Concert Hall. At last, we went to Redtory Art and Design Factory, the former Yingjinqian Canned Food Factory, now a civilian art and culture hub. We hope the tour could facilitate the cultural exchange between art administrators from Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Arts Festival’s Plus Event :Orientalism Today
"Oriental" is an old-fashioned term, redolent of age-old stereotypes borne out of fantasy and prejudice. Yet we continue to stage, perform - and love - works that trade with "oriental" imagery, whether visual, verbal or musical. Think of Scheherazade or Turandot. This makes us uneasy. Hence the pleas for critical distance. But can we pass judgement without being reductive? Hasn't the time come for considering Asian stereotypes about the West? Taking cue from the programme of this year's Hong Kong Arts Festival such as La Bayadère and Dream of the Red Chamber, a panel of young scholars debate the lingering appeal of escapist fantasies and the role of Hong Kong as incubator of new ideas about East, West, and anything in between.

Red – A Documentary Performance (10% off ticket discount for members!)
Red, the latest work by the Beijing-based “Living Dance Studio”, is a documentary performance with revolutionary model opera as its point of departure. The deconstruction of this artwork created in that particular era is an exploration into the body memories engraved by that particular movement.

Four dancers of varied background appear in Red: WEN Hui, the director, grew up with the eight model operas, to which her feelings and experience is complicated. LIU Zhuying was a performer in the era of model operas and her movements today remain as high-spirited as they were back then. JIANG Fan, a contemporary dancer, reviews and criticizes with the contradictions that escape from her body, on which model opera, classical dance, xiqu and modern dance juxtapose. LI Xinmin, a village woman without any dance training at all regards her body as the tool of her manual labor and the expression of her being a villager, a female villager.

Red transcends dance from the obsession of body technique and the form of dance to regarding the body as a language of story-telling. Centered on our memories and reflection, Red is a not-to-be-missed performance that strives to present life memories inseparable from the body itself.
