【10-day Countdown】2016 Cultural Leadership Summit - The Art of Successful Collaboration

Cultural Leadership Summit is Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association (HKAAA)’s annual major event. With different themes every year, the HKAAA pursues professionalism and constructive dialogue in the practice of arts administrators. With the theme “The Art of Successful Collaboration”, this year’s Cultural Leadership Summit aims to explore the possibilities of collaborations within the culture field and beyond, promoting more integration between arts, business and other sectors for a prosperous future. We will be looking for collaborative frameworks that inspire us to engage in new and different ways within our creative environment, with impacts far reaching beyond the sectoral boundaries.
 
The Summit will benefit arts administrators from all sizes of organizations, arts entrepreneurs, artists, educators, and decision makers of non-profit sector and corporations, as well as anyone who is tasked with developing collaborative spirit and relationships in the future of their arts and programmes.

About the Exclusive Guided Tour for HKAAA Members/Volunteers
Date: 21 May 2016 (Sat)
Tour Time: 11:00am (Approx. 60mins)
Meeting time and point: 10:45am at the side entrance of
Hong Kong Heritage Museum
Exhibition Venue: Hong Kong Heritage Museum (1 Man Lam Road, Sha Tin)
Language: 2 concurrent tours will be arranged and will be conducted in English and Cantonese respectively. Please indicate your preference in the registration form

Quota: 20-25 persons / tour*
*If the number of participants is fewer than 20, the tour will be cancelled and the registrants will be arranged to join the tour conducted in another language (if applicable) without prior notice, please note.

Beyond Event Horizon - Panel Discussion: The Future of Public Art in Hong Kong

 
“Beyond Event Horizon - Panel Discussion: The Future of Public Art in Hong Kong” co-presented with British Council has been successfully held on 17 May 2016. We were glad to invite Mr Cassius Taylor-Smith, Mr Benny Chia, Mr Euan Upston and Ms Maria Wong as the speakers and Mr Robert Ness as the moderator in this panel discussion.  Participants were given an unique chance to get an understanding of the public art development in Hong Kong and the key ideas for making a difference in the future.
 
Mr Cassius Taylor-Smith, Curatorial Director of Event Horizon Hong Kong, shared the story and the challenges that have encountered along the way for Event Horizon. Mr Benny Chia, Director of Hong Kong Fringe Club, examined the censorship of public art. Mr Euan Upston, Director of Central Police Station Compound, introduced the concept, preparation, arrangement, development and opening plan of Tai Kwun. Ms Maria Wong, Managing Director of HKwalls, shared her experience in street art and street culture implementation. She also emphasized on the importance of public engagement and the relationship between of street art and the public urban realm.

The heated discussion and response from the participants and the lively discussion among the panelist had marked a success for the event.

Esteemed French conductor Yan Pascal Tortelier returns to the HK Phil for the first time since 2010, conducting French masterpieces and a radiant tone poem by Strauss. Stunning Swedish cellist Jakob Koranyi makes his Hong Kong debut in these concerts.

Hong Kong Philharmonic - Swire Maestro Series: Jaap's Bruckner 4
Jaap van Zweden is world-famous for his conducting of Bruckner, yet until now, Hong Kong has not experienced this important part of his musical life. In these concerts Jaap performs Bruckner’s titanic fourth symphony. We welcome Louis Lortie, a sublime interpreter of Mozart, to perform the heavenly twenty-second piano concerto.

The 20th Microwave International New Media Arts Festival - BE WATER II
With the curatorial theme of "BE WATER II", the 20th Microwave International New Media Arts Festival is having its grand opening on 3rd June this year. Revolving around city, technology, and life, Microwave has invited world known local and international artists to come to Hong Kong with their latest media art works and projects.
 
Following the curatorial theme in 2015 - BE WATER Episode I, Microwave carries out the Episode II in 2016 - which serves DATA as ART, as Data is one of the key creative elements nowadays and with the form of fluidity of water. It’s no doubt that water carries the essence of life and nature; which is actually represents the origin of life and when it comes to the spirit of our Chinese Philosophy, it is going to present through the strong crossover behind “Water form” and Digital Technology.

HKDI Gallery Presents: Over the Ocean, On the Road
Embark on a nautical journey across the Pacific Ocean with acclaimed Hong Kong photographer Leong Ka Tai. HKDI Gallery presents Leong’s photographic work and videos from his adventurous five-month voyage with a specially created interactive installation. An exhibition that invites viewers to rethink the notions of communication, connection and travelling.
