New Zealand Festival

Committed to originality, excellence and making the world a better place through art, the New Zealand Festival every second year transforms Wellington into a buzzing culture zone with three weeks of the finest international and home-grown music, theatre, dance, visual art and writers.

2014 New Zealand Festival featured more than 300 performances, including six world premieres of new New Zealand work.  The festival welcomed 1200 artists from 19 countries to Wellington and over 266,000 enjoyed free and paid events. It also included the Writers Week and School Fest programmes.

New Zealand Festival 2016 highlight events include dance show “Café Müller / The Rite of Spring” by Pina Bausch, which is a precious chance to discover why the great Pina Bausch (1940–2009) inspires such devotion when her legendary company comes to New Zealand for the first time, and music performance “No Man's Land”, which features 150 musicians from more than 20 countries, this multi-layered world music collaboration brings together the descendants of opposing forces in WWI and reunites them in friendship and musical solidarity.

The next New Zealand Festival is on 20 February – 26 March 2016. Go and check out the New Zealand Festival on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/nzfestival)

With its reputation for innovation, the Festival also presents the annual Wellington Jazz Festival.

The last Jazz Festival featured 100 international and New Zealand gigs over five days, turning up the heat in the capital’s famous Cuba Quarter and beyond with relaxed afternoon sessions and riotous late-night jams.

The next Jazz Festival is on 8–12 June 2016. Go and check out the Wellington Jazz Festival on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/welljazzfest).

The New Zealand Festival is a curated Festival. Artists are invited to perform and the programming of the Festival is an ongoing process. If you are interested, please email nzfestival@festival.co.nz.
