Recap: 3rd Hong Kong Arts Administration Recruitment Day

The 3rd Hong Kong Arts Administration Recruitment Day, presented by HKAAA, has been successfully held on last Saturday 15 August 2015. We are glad to have 8 arts organizations joined as recruiters, providing more than 20 job vacancies for on-site application and interview. More than 200 participants attended for talks and job applications. We are honoured to have 5 distinguished guest speakers: Ms Jessie Lam (Executive Director, Theatre Ronin), Ms Connie Lam (Executive Director, Hong Kong Arts Centre), Mr Raymond Wong (Managing Director, City Contemporary Dance Company), Ms Jo Ngai (Executive Director, The Nonsensemakers) and Mr Antony Chan (Senior Charities Manager, The Hong Kong Jockey Club) who shared their views and experience in the field with the attendees. Thank you very much for your support! HKAAA would like to extend our gratitude to Recruit for being our exclusive media partner of the recruitment day for the second time, and volunteers who helped make this event possible.

Our guest speakers revealed that the industry, ranging from small, medium to large-scale arts groups, has a demand for arts administrators. Among the recruiters, the first thing many look for in potential colleagues is not the education level or which major they studied, but their personality and their knowledge and passion for arts. Broadly speaking, arts administration involves a wide variety of job duties that require characteristics such as good communication skills, common sense, versatility, individuality as well as team spirit.

Featured Event

K11 Art Foundation and Palais de Tokyo - Tianzhuo Chen's Solo Exhibition
Co-presented by the K11 Art Foundation and Palais de Tokyo (Paris), this exhibition is Tianzhuo Chen’s solo debut outside China, indeed a great achievement for young Tianzhuo Chen, who is known as one of the most promising artists of our generation. The exhibition has been officially launched to public on June 24th and will run until September 13th, 2015. This is the second exhibition out of the three-year-collaboration between K11 Art Foundation and Palais de Tokyo after the well-received “Inside China- L’Intérieur du Géant”. Both organisations share the same mission and vision in promoting young talents through world-tour exhibitions, artist residencies and educational programmes.

Chen’s work revolves around rituals and the symbolism associated with it, through his bold and whimsical way of presentations, Chen reveals his intimate thoughts towards moral attitudes and beliefs. Chen employed a narrative way to present powerful messages and philosophy through his work, which include a wide range of mediums such as paintings, sculptures, videos, installations and performance. With the use of vibrant colours, surreal and kitsch imagery, Chen’s artwork is often related to LGBT, hip-hop, the London rave scene, Japanese butoh, New York voguing and the fashion industry.

The courage and creativity to produce work which brings surprises to the audience is incredibly challenging, but Chen has an ambition to transport his profound philosophy to the audience through bright colours, disturbing scenes and emotional approaches, to explore the relationship between reality and spirituality.
