HKAAA 30th Anniversary Dinner

To celebrate Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association’s 30th anniversary and to commemorate the contributions of our Founders and Former Board Members to the development of local arts administration and management profession, the HKAAA 30th Anniversary Dinner will be held on 11 June 2015 (Thu).

The growth of the Association would not be possible without the invaluable contributions made by staunch supporters of the organization over the years. "How to Say It"

As the end of this academic semester approaches, I have been visiting institutions and organizations to introduce the arts administration field and points to note at career talks. I often remind students who are interested to join the industry of the importance of their language skills. As a great part of arts administration work involves writing proposals, emails, letters and promotional copy, language proficiency is crucial except a passion for the arts.

A lot of fresh graduates who join the arts administration sector are good at expressing their sentiments, however, they might not be as confident in daily communication and correspondence. Meanwhile, with the changes in the arts and culture scene and the social environment, arts practitioners ought to engage with the commercial sector or other industries more often. Arts administrators thus have to be familiar with business writing.

With its third edition published, the book “How to Say It” talks about everyday communication skills. A friend introduced me this book when I first set foot in the profession. In the past ten years and more, this book has been of help, no matter when I was working in the arts or the business sector.

There are 50 chapters in the book, each introduces a communication situation, some are on business writing while some are personal correspondence. Except different kinds of templates, the author provides the logic and remarks for different kinds of writing. The book is a great source for self-learning as well as daily reference.
