HKAAA Updates

2nd Hong Kong Arts Administration Recruitment Day

Presented by Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association
Exclusive Media Partner: Classified Post (South China Morning Post)

Following the huge success of our first Arts Administration Recruitment Day, the Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association is launching its second large-scale arts administration recruitment day at Sheung Wan Civic Centre on 31 January 2015 (Sat).

Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association strives to support the advancement of a flourishing arts scene by establishing a network connecting arts administrators in local and neighbor areas. To link the shortages of different levels of work in the arts field with demands to arts jobs, the HKAAA is going to launch its second Arts Administration Recruitment Day on 31 January 2015 (Sat).

The Recruitment Day will serve as a platform for the participating arts organizations and job seekers, offering an opportunity for on-location job application and interview. Prestigious arts administration managers are invited to share with us their views and experience as well as the future and opportunities in the profession on the Recruitment Day.

Dialogue with HKAAA

Dialogue with HKAAA: Ms Joon-Yee Kwok, 2014 Asialink Arts Resident from Australia

As part of the 2014 Asialink Arts Residency Program supported by The Australia Council for the Arts, Ms Joon-Yee Kwok was with the Fringe Club for about 2 weeks in December 2014 to foster connection between Australian and Hong Kong’s arts scenes. Ms Kwok is a creative producer and experience designer with over 15 years of experience in the arts, entertainment, events and creative industries. She is currently the Mastermind behind the Australian Bureau of Asian Creatives and a lecturer of Creative Industries at Queensland University of Technology. It was a pleasure to have Ms Kwok at the Fringe Club to share with local arts practitioners the Australian arts festival landscape on 26 November. We are delighted to bring you an interview with Ms Kwok for more thoughts and ideas about the Australian arts field and possibilities of future Hong Kong-Australia creative collaboration.

About Australian Arts Scene

HKAAA: As you mentioned in the sharing session, there are many arts festivals in Australia.  Who initiated these festivals?  The Australian government?  State/City government?  Or, an arts organisation?  Who supports these arts festivals?

Joon: All of the above! Brisbane Festival, for instance, is co-owned by the Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government. There are many ways of seeking support for the arts in Australia. Theatre companies are entrepreneurial to make productions, producers would look for non-traditional theatre spaces and seek funding from different sources like grants and sponsorships, proving their capacity to raise fund and go self-sustainable after government reduce the level of support.
