Exclusive Media Partner: Classified Post (South China Morning Post)

Following the huge success of our first Arts Administration Recruitment Day, the Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association is launching its second large-scale arts administration recruitment day at Sheung Wan Civic Centre on 31 January 2015 (Sat).

Hong Kong Arts Administrators Association strives to support the advancement of a flourishing arts scene by establishing a network connecting arts administrators in local and neighbor areas. To link the shortages of different levels of work in the arts field with demands to arts jobs, the HKAAA is going to launch its second Arts Administration Recruitment Day on 31 January 2015 (Sat).

The Recruitment Day will serve as a platform for the participating arts organizations and job seekers, offering an opportunity for on-location job application and interview. Prestigious arts administration managers are invited to share with us their views and experience as well as the future and opportunities in the profession on the Recruitment Day.

FAME 2014 Journal - Evelyn (Sydney Theatre Company, Australia)
My second month in Sydney Theatre Company (STC) was very exciting and rewarding, fully packed with meetings within and outside the company.  I was given the chance to sit-in Management Meeting of the senior management, weekly team meetings of the Education and Corporate Partnerships teams, as well as informational interviews with various department heads to make myself more familiar with the company.  I also joined the Education team to attend a talk by STC’s Artistic Director, Andrew Upton at the University of Sydney.

The company has been very kind to line up meetings for me with other arts organizations such as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Sydney Festival and the Sydney Opera House.  Since STC is a resident company of the Opera House, I also enjoyed the privilege of taking a training class offered by the Opera House on delivery of customer service.  After a chat with the Head of Children, Families & Creative Learning of the Opera House, I was thrilled to be invited to attend an education project in collaboration with London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, whereby musicians of the LSO shared the stage with 100 students across New South Wales.  The students received sectional tutoring from the Orchestra for 3 days, observed rehearsal and performance of the Orchestra before staging the concert.  After spending time with various arts organizations, I admire the depth of education programmes being offered.

FAME 2014 Journal - Felix (Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, Taiwan)
After a month of placement in Cloud Gate’s Marketing Department, I have assisted in the completion of Chinese version of “Cloud Gate Theatre”s website and have taken over as the main designer of English version website. By mid-November, I would switch department to work with the Performance Team and help with the preparation work for the new productions “White Water/Dust” and “Pine Smoke” in Taipei.

November 10 2014 marked a historic date for Cloud Gate as the blessing ceremony was held for the newly established Tamsui Culture and Art Education Center— “Cloud Gate Theatre”. The entire Administration Department was involved in holding the event and I assisted in coordinating with the press at the ceremony.

Bel Canto Singers is proud to announce the fourth re-run of “Yu Kwang-chung’s Words & Music”. Since its premiere in Hong Kong, “Yu Kwang-chung’s Words & Music” was invited to tour Singapore. Last October the programme was brought to Taiwan, performing at the invitation of Prof. Yu Kwang-chung himself at his university, and then repeated in two performances in Taipei as part of the “Taipei Hong Kong Week 2014”.  After a full circle in South-east Asia, we now return to Hong Kong!

This programme is a wonderful meeting of poetic verses and musical notes. Vocal works written and re-arranged by composers inspired by Professor Yu’s poems in the last 30 years or more will be interlaced with the inspirational words of Yu himself.  The concert will be performed by tenor David Quah, soprano Margaret Yim, mezzo-soprano Emily Liu and bass Edmund Kwan, accompanied on the piano by Julie Kuok, with readings by veteran radio presenter and music critic Dennis Wu, hoping to transport the audience to the world of the Muse.

To follow up on Artistic Director Law Wing-fai’s highly acclaimed atmospheric music theatre “When Petals Fall in Serenity” last month, Wuji Ensemble is proud to present “Blank-leaving”.

Wuji Ensemble is known for its training steeped in Chinese culture. In addition to its weekly rehearsals of ruan and pipa, Ensemble members follow a regular regimen that includes taichi, calligraphy and kunqu training, in addition to meditation. “Blank-leaving” is another attempt to portray a sense of quiet and solemn meditation on the flight of life through music, realizing the epitome of “music from the heart”. It exhibits an air of pure other-worldliness, with random moments of hurried strings and winds, moving between stillness and motion. The concert revolves around the Ensemble’s Music Director and pipa soloist Wong Chi-ching, with guest performances by dizi and xiao player Zhang Fan and renowned local erhu player Zhang Guanjie.
